Extraordinary Desserts is San Diego’s premier dessert destination, founded by renowned pastry chef Karen Krasne. Seamlessly blending global flavors with the finest local ingredients, Extraordinary Desserts’ showstopping cakes and exquisite desserts have seduced San Diegans and set the standard for special events and weddings for over three decades. With two locations in San Diego (Little Italy and Bankers Hill) and daily updates to the dessert menu, each visit offers a one-of-a-kind experience.

Extraordinary Desserts’ extensive selection of exquisite cakes and confections is ever-evolving, ensuring there’s something new to discover, no matter the occasion. Signature cakes and flavors include Black Velvet Cake, Passion Fruit Ricotta Cake, Shangri-la Cake, and Dulce de Leche Cake, which was featured on the Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”. In addition to a rotating selection of dozens of exquisite cakes and confections, Extraordinary Desserts’ menu offers an assortment of European-inspired bites including shareable dips and spreads, paninis, and soups and salads.

The ambiance of the restaurants are a reflection of Krasne’s global explorations, with each corner offering a glimpse into her travels and personal culinary experiences. Award-winning architectural design by San Diego’s Luce et studio creates stunning backdrops for the indulgent savory and sweet offerings. The lotus flower logo is a central motif, symbolizing Extraordinary Desserts’ spirit of continual reinvention and renewal—just as the lotus blooms anew each day, the restaurants evolve, embracing fresh flavors, experiences, and artistic expression. 

In addition to the restaurants dine-in, takeaway and catering offerings, Extraordinary Desserts also offers a selection of curated retail items including chef Karen’s best-selling cookbook and a branded line of gourmet food products featuring mouth-watering cookies, jams, granolas, custom blended coffees and teas, candles, branded gear and more 

Menu 

Extraordinary Desserts built its name on showstopping cakes and desserts as San Diego’s landmark patisserie. In addition, Extraordinary Desserts offers a savory menu with a cult food following of panini sandwiches, salads, artisan cheeses, as well as a selection of fine wines, bubbles and craft beers.

  • Sweet: Fan favorites include Passion Fruit Ricotta Cake, featuring passion fruit whipped cream with kiwis, strawberries, and bananas; Shangri-la Cake featuring white chocolate mousse and guava mousse along with fresh strawberries; and Warm Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding made with croissants soaked in vanilla crème brûlée and layered with chocolate ganache. Other popular selections include house made Ice Creams and Sorbets, Morning Pastries, Cookies, Brownies, Petit Desserts, and more. Finishing touches on all desserts include fresh roses, edible gold leaf, and crystallized sugar petals. Cakes are available by the slice and as whole cakes sold in 6”, 8” and 10” sizes.
  • Savory: Extraordinary Desserts offers a full savory menu featuring dips and spreads, cheese and charcuterie boards, grilled cheese and panini sandwiches, soup, and salads. Many options are available in vegan and gluten free options. Highlights include the Old-Fashioned Caramelized Onion Dip, Classic Caesar Salad, Grilled Cheese BLT, Vegan Italian Salami Panini, Wild Caught Albacore Tuna Panini, and Classic Caesar Salad. The delicious savory options can be accompanied with a curated selection of fine wines, bubbles and craft beers.
